What to Do in Case of Tuberculosis?

  • Due to difficulties in accurate diagnosis, frequent detection of extrapulmonary forms of tuberculosis in young children, and the fact that tuberculosis in children often receives less attention compared to adults, determining the true prevalence of the disease among children globally is quite challenging. Children under 5 years old represent a particularly epidemiologically significant group. At this age, tuberculosis can rapidly progress from a latent form to active disease and its severe complications.
  • Miliary tuberculosis and tuberculous meningitis are widespread among younger children. Moreover, detection of active tuberculosis in a child of this age often indicates recent infection and the presence of an active source of infection in their immediate environment. In most cases, children contract tuberculosis from family members.
