Electroencephalography, or EEG, is a neurological diagnostic method used to record and evaluate the electrical activity of the brain. EEG is most commonly used to diagnose epilepsy. In some cases, it is also used to diagnose coma, brain death, sleep disorders, and encephalopathies. A routine EEG procedure typically takes 20–30 minutes.
