The diet should be balanced: daily intake should consist of 50–55% carbohydrates, 15–20% proteins, and 25–30% fats. It is important to consume carbohydrates with a low glycemic index (GI: low ≤55, medium 56–70, high 70–100), foods rich in fiber, and whole grain products. Instead of high-calorie and fatty foods, it is recommended to eat more fruits and vegetables.
• Avoid sweet and carbonated drinks, energy drinks, processed foods, fast food, and eating on the go.
• Be sure to have breakfast and lunch, preferably together with the family, to develop healthy eating habits.
• It is necessary to replenish micronutrient deficiencies (zinc, iron, and vitamins).
• For children with overweight under 3 years old, nutrition must be carefully selected.
• After 6 months, complementary feeding should supplement breastfeeding.
• After switching to bottle feeding, avoid sweet juices, drinks, and foods high in carbohydrates.
• The bottle should not be used to soothe the child.
