To protect yourself from coronavirus, which millions of people around the world are fighting, various guidelines have been issued. In addition to maintaining good hygiene, wearing medical masks is an important preventive measure. Unfortunately, many of us do not know how to use masks correctly.
There are two main types of medical masks: surgical masks and respirators.
• Surgical masks should be worn for 2–3 hours only.
• Respirator masks can be worn longer than surgical masks, but reusing them after removal is incorrect.
• Wearing a mask for an extended period can cause respiratory discomfort.
Rules for using medical masks:
Wash your hands with soap and water or disinfect them with alcohol before putting on a mask. Make sure the mask completely covers your mouth and nose, and there are no gaps between the mask and your face. Do not touch the mask while wearing it. If you accidentally touch the mask, immediately wash or disinfect your hands. If the mask becomes damp, replace it with a new one. Remove the mask by holding only the straps, without touching the front of it. After removing the mask, place it in a bag and dispose of it immediately, then wash or disinfect your hands again.
