Astigmatism is a refractive anomaly in which the cornea or the lens has a non-spherical shape. This leads to the image on the retina being blurred and distorted.
Children with astigmatism often complain of headaches, eye fatigue, and eye strain. The cause of the condition is a disruption in the configuration of the eye’s optical system, caused by uneven curvature of the cornea or an abnormal shape of the lens.
In most cases, astigmatism is congenital and develops due to uneven pressure on the eye’s outer layers from the eyelids, eye muscles, and the bones of the eye socket.
If your child shows the described symptoms, be sure to consult an ophthalmologist for timely diagnosis and correction.
