Thalassemia

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder characterized by impaired hemoglobin synthesis and chronic anemia as a result of a genetic defect.

If two people with thalassemia get married, their child is 50 percent more likely to be a carrier, 25 percent more likely to have thalassemia, and 25 percent more likely to have a healthy birth.
